We met through a mutual friend at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago, but after graduation we fell out of touch. However, some years later we both ended up in Boston at the same time working at the same Paper Source. How serendipitous!\u00a0I knew Callen would be a perfect fit for Swell Things. She approaches art and design with so much appreciation and consideration to both the artist and their process. I was amazed at the amount of skill, creativity and craftsmanship under one roof&#8211;and by how very well-read you bookbinders are! One piece that caught my attention was <em>Precipitous<\/em> by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nicole-pietrantoni.com\/index.php?\/installation\/precipitous\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.nicole-pietrantoni.com\/index.php?\/installation\/precipitous\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1493224300136000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFM-FxBIg28_NsZzZ2zETWpl-fiuw\">Nicole Pietrantoni<\/a>. They are at once beautiful and foreboding.<br \/>\n9.\u00a0It\u2019s been almost 2 years since we moved from the east coast to Northern California, and it\u2019s grown on me fast. I am starting to see how the style and culture of California, and the bay area in particular, influence aesthetics nationwide. <a href=\"http:\/\/masonstpeter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/masonstpeter.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1493224300136000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH12Qgjf-X1ySuUxXS0olqynAeR5w\">Mason St. Peter<\/a> is an architect whose work seems to embody that laid-back California spirit.<br \/>\n10.\u00a0One of my favorite aspects of my work as a design assistant is product research and discovering amazing artists, designers and makers of all kinds. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.willieweston.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/www.willieweston.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1493222414498000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGEbStaCqg2X3Y2_y1axChDohbXIg\">Willie Weston<\/a> is a company in Australia that collaborates with Indigenous artists to create textiles and wallpapers.
