Back for another guest post is my good friend and fellow classmate, Henry H\u00e9bert<\/a>. His picks this year include some fellow bookbinders (and one of their cats), a secluded bookbinding haven and some old comforts.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0Zdzis\u0142aw Beksi\u0144ski, <\/span>Untitled<\/span><\/i>, oil on fibreboard: <\/span>Beksi\u0144ski\u2019s dystopian surrealism is gorgeous and haunting. My favorite paintings are like this one, combining religious iconography with almost alien textures. You can see a virtual gallery of his work here<\/a>.<\/span>
\n2.\u00a0Lahey Hemostatic Foreceps: Adam Larsson, Conservator at Uppsala University Library, clued me in to using long surgical tools<\/a> for quickly lacing sewing supports through paper case bindings. <\/span>
\n3.\u00a0Darwin:\u00a0<\/span>I picked this print up at Horse + Hero<\/a><\/span>\u00a0in Asheville, NC. This line from some of Charles Darwin\u2019s 1861 correspondence pretty much sums up how I feel most mornings.<\/span>
\n4.\u00a0Dark Souls<\/a>: I think this video game from 2011 is still one of the best games ever made. Fun to play, excellent design, and weird, weird story telling.<\/span>
\n5.\u00a0Bradel the Cat: <\/span>Noted bookbinder and artist Karen Hanmer<\/a><\/span>\u00a0is the caretaker of this wonderful Abyssinian cat. <\/span><\/p>\n

6.\u00a0Trump stress ball:\u00a0<\/span>News getting you down? Take your frustration out by squeezing a tiny<\/a> version of our president\u2019s dumb head.<\/span>
\n7.\u00a0Rocks:\u00a0<\/span>I recently saw some of these decorated, parchment-wrapped rocks made by Shanna Leino<\/a><\/span>. They were just such curious, fun little objects – I had to put them on this list.<\/span>
\n8.\u00a0 Oxbow: I just attended my first Paper & Book Intensive<\/a><\/span>, held at the Ox-bow School of Art in Saugutuck, MI. It was a pretty magical opportunity to disconnect from the outside world and focus on bookbinding.<\/span>
\n9.\u00a0Jodorowsky\u2019s Dune<\/a>:\u00a0<\/span>This documentary about <\/span>Alejandro Jodorowsky\u2019s <\/span>failed attempt to make a film based on Frank Herbert\u2019s <\/span>Dune<\/span><\/i> is wonderful. Some of my favorite artists were all set to collaborate on the project, and many award-winning projects were produced from the wreckage.<\/span>
\n10.\u00a0Mini-dividers:\u00a0<\/span>Brien Beidler<\/span><\/a>\u00a0makes some really nice brass tools. I just happened to have a pair of tiny plastic hands on me when he showed me these mini brass dividers.
