Rachell Sumpter<\/a> borrows symbols from religious and political traditions, dreams and our endangered natural world in order to capture legacies left by generations of people who are hidden, but whose actions are seen. Through layered gouache and pastel, Rachell creates scenes full of mystery, pleasure and loss, painting figures dressed in heavily embroidered clothing engaged in ceremonious acts. Amongst these powerful scenes we view human closeness and intimacy at the edge of vast natural landscapes.\u00a0<\/p>\n
