Artist Statement
The wisps of color scattered across the binding are reminiscent of feathers, but are also meant to mimic the carved lines found within the wood engravings. The binding is constructed with a handmade paper to create a soft and lightweight case to echo the small creatures caged within the text.

Schanilec purposefully left the head edge intact to cage the birds within. This irregularity is mimicked by the asymmetrical quality of the binding, such as including a yapp only on the back cover.
