Artist Statement
Winter’s Tale was first published in 1623. To represent this, the front cover of the binding is adorned with Shakespeare as he appears in the iconic portrait found in the First Folio. The portrait is assembled with hand-cut pieces of handmade paper and goatskin leather. Elements are embellished with embroidery and paint. The design of the box is styled to match the bouquet of flowers found within the accordion along with species native to Sicily, the setting for Winter’s Tale. The book can open flat enabling the reader to easily open the entire accordion or page through as a codex.
